It is used in monitoring fruit flies. It has two components 1) Clear top \u0026amp; 2) Yellow base. Inside the clear top is a platform on which pheromone attractant is placed Once inside the trap, the insect is attracted by the light coming through the clear top and continues to try and escape upwards. The exhausted insect drops down into the base filled with liquid and drowns\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\"\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4 class=\"font_4 wixui-rich-text__text\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\"\u003eHow They Work:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font_8 wixui-rich-text__text\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"wixui-rich-text__text\"\u003eThe male moths which are attracted by the female pheromone lure placed under the lid of the clear top enter the trap. Once inside the trap, the insect is attracted by the light coming through the clear top and continues to try and escape upwards. The exhausted insect drops down into the base filled with liquid and drowns. These traps are installed in the fields at the rate of 5-7 traps per acre for monitoring. Traps should normally be attached to stakes at crop height and placed within the crop with at least 50m between each trap. To avoid affecting the efficiency of the trapping system it is strongly recommended that traps be used only for the one species.
